Simple Minds were reluctant to release this single in the UK; they weren't exactly happy with the song plus they didn't want to release it before their forthcoming album : Once Upon A Time. They finally relented after its success in the USA and a flood of American and Canadian imports were being sold in the European record stores. However, Don't You still wasn't included on their new album (a good decision in retrospect) and it wasn't until 1990, with the Themes Volumes that the extended mix of Don't You (Forget About Me) was released officially in Europe.

Note that two different sleeve designs were issued in the USA - the Breakfast Club picture was added at a later date.
