The first edition of this box set was part of a general Virgin reissue series. The first three albums of a host of bands were pressed up as special picture CDs (contained within their original jewelcases and packaging) and sold as these triple CD box sets. Apart from a CD with a picture on it, these box sets offered no extra tracks or packaging.

Issues of these box sets continued over the years for other bands (I think there are three Genesis sets for instance), but, for Simple Minds, only the first three albums have appeared in this form.

Late in 1994, Virgin France reissued these box sets in blue boxes instead of the original marbled boxes. Although this new box set corrected a misprint on the original (Reel to Real Cacophony was corrected), the CD picture disks themselves carried extra catalogue numbers and information - thus spoiling the picture to a degree.
